New Zealand singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser was 19 when she signed with Sony in 2002 and released this album the following year. A talented piano player and fledgling songwriter, the material here sounds confident and self-assured. Her bright voice and catchy songs quickly found an audience in New Zealand and five songs were hit singles in her homeland. From the funky love song "Still In Love" to the swaying catchy melody of "Better", this is an excellent debut. Whether her songs are built around piano or guitar, she has a knack for creating compelling songs, topped by her fine voice. Strong songs like "Lifeline" and "Saving The World" stand out from the crowd with their crisp production and perfect poppiness. What I really love about what Brooke does is the way the songs reflect her worldview and she's not afraid to write songs about her faith. Outstanding in that department is the fabulous "Indelible" which is a delicate ballad reflecting on the fact that when she comes face to face and looks into the eyes of Jesus, the impact of his truth will completely change her. It's a gorgeous moment on an album packed with gorgeous moments. A fine debut and Brooke is a talent that deserves to get recognition this side of the world.
