If you've been following the expanding modern worship scene of Great Britain you will know that Bright City based at Brighton's St. Peter's Church have produced two extraordinarily creative albums. This project doesn't reach the epic heights of 'Bright City: Songs Of Faith And Hope From St Peter's Brighton' and 'Hello Maker' but then this is a far less ambitious project. The 'Still' series conceived by Integrity Music features instrumental versions of what are considered the best worship songs currently circulating the world Church. Volume One performed by Rivers & Robots was good and this, thanks to the amazing production skills of Jonny Byrd is even better. Songs include "Our God Reigns" and "When I Survey" but with plenty of fresh arrangements. The latter, for example, gains a totally new approach which to my mind is very refreshing. Another, the lesser-known "Here For You", uses the band's layered keys to create something engaging, modern and, to me, escaping the easy trap of an instrumental album sounding like a film soundtrack. It is great to hear an album challenging the status quo in an instrumental worship genre which too often in the past has found itself in a rut.
