Midshipman Rimmer said some nice things about their eponymous debut with its distinctly punk sound but I found it so-so. This is much better. Gutsy alternative rock with the crunching guitars interplaying nicely with the keys (no mean feat) and Chris Whiting showing himself to be an effective singer. The first three cuts here all have strong hooks, helped by some nifty production from the band's Jamie Field, while "Cookies (And Cream)" is haunting acoustic and "The Ant Song" zaney fun. All in all, a most impressive five-song release from a band clearly heading places.
