No doubt our recent article alerted you to the fact that the Bahamas are now producing some quality dancehall/ragga through these two brothers. This is earthy and vibrant stuff with Marco and Mario aided by a few guests like Mr Lynx, Prophessa, Yankee, Monty G and Reuben Heights chanting down Babylon with rapid syllable rhymes which may be largely impenetrable to those not versed in patois but still somehow convey spiritual militancy. Production by Ronnie "DJ Frost" Cash is suitably gutsy and the whole album, from the storming opener "Ballin' Skeem" to the no-holds-barred closer "Da Word" exude rhythmic ingenuity. Avalanchee say that their next album will have more of the Bahamian colourings of junkanoo and rakeandscrape. I can hardly wait for that!
