Ah, Andy Read! A name I recognise from way back (he once won a Cross Rhythms demo competition) who in recent years has been making rather infectious children's music as Charlie's Band. A little confusingly, Andy features his two (undeniably beautiful) kids on the front sleeve while in fact this is an adult album, his first since 'Happy Friday' in 1996. It's been well worth the wait. Andy has a nice line in jazzy compositions with hummable hooks and though his voice is a tad minimalist (strangely sometimes reminding me of '60s hero Georgie Fame) while some great musos (including Ben Castle and Kerry Minnear) add some lovely touches. Laid back pop jazz with direct, I-love-Jesus lyrics.
