Being a blues fan for many years, when this disc came through for review it was straight into the CD player and the volume turned up in anticipation - which can be a bit of a dangerous thing when it comes to self-produced albums. However, I was not disappointed as from the opening bars this is real blues played and produced with style by a white blues gospel man from Angus in Scotland. As the title suggests, this might be a blues album but the lyrics are far from down and out and give a very positive view on life using some traditional blues themes - such as a kind of answer to an Albert King hit now called "Born Under A Good Sign" and the equally good "You've Got Me Where You Want Me". While history has shown that can get away with almost anything when it comes to blues vocals, they are the weak point here feeling a little thin in the mix and occasionally rather too strained in what is otherwise and excellent blues disc.
