I can't resist quoting from a review which you'll find on the Hallels website: "Alisa Turner has a voice that pulverises. With a striking clarity of a Jenn Johnson, a worshipping lilt of a Darlene Zschech and an undergirding Holy Spirit power of Kim Walker-Smith, Turner makes you stop and worship when she sings." Alisa is no mean songwriter either. The opener "Lift My Eyes" built on the words of Psalm 121 is a gem and will surely get radio play. Almost as good is "Not Even Now" as she sings of God's sovereignty in the face of suffering. And suffering this most effecting of singer/songwriters knows much about. Alisa has battled with Lyme disease since childhood while the unexpected death of her worship pastor father and the loss of an infant son only minutes after his birth would have pulled apart any but the strongest believers. But Alisa's faith is conveyed in abundance in these rich, melodic songs. Production-wise this EP is a bit disappointing. Despite Dove Award winning Michael Farren at the controls, adding synth washes and electronic drums to Alisa's elegant piano works well on one or two songs but by the time you get through all six here you're crying out for more inventive arrangements. But with such an arresting voice and such memorable Scripture-based songs one can forgive that deficiency. Here's hoping a full length album with more expansive production will come soon.
