Hands up. No, I'm not instantly getting into black church mode -though considering the rootsy, "let's have church" atmosphere exuded here I easily could be. To continue, hands up all you soul buffs who've been longing for this one ever since news of Alexander's decision to come back to the Lord first filtered through. In the '80s our man was unquestionably one of the GREAT voices of R&B though unfortunately one often heard on unsavoury bedroom soul hits. Well, no believer could have the slightest problem with this lyric, in fact its in-your-face plea to Jesus for more power is the stuff traditional black gospel has been giving us for decades. There's the rub. For all its heartening desire to create the atmosphere of black church, with a Brixlon choir no less, the song simply isn't strong enough and no amount of remixes can hide the fact. As and when Alexander gets a great hook like some of those '80s hits, a Jesus lyric, and those awesome soul pipes all together on the some record, THEN we'll have an R&B gospel killer.
