Hailing from the quirky sounding Poughkeepsie, New York, Abel have recently signed to Facedown and here offer this five track EP of self-penned songs. Sounding very much like Coldplay with shimmering guitars and haunting keys, Abel have written a collection of tracks that verge on worship music, not unlike Telecast. Their message is bold and beautifully communicated through lyrics that are both honest and open. "And though I'm trying, I'm not like Christ at all" is an example of the candour they display. Some may, however, find Kevin Kneifel's vocals a little on the forced and scratchy side which is a pity. Musically Abel are accomplished producing a broad sound that belies the fact that they number only three. Layered harmonies build to produce a relaxed but powerful overall effect. My favourite cut is, 'The World Sings' which builds to a driving rock finale.
