New programme receives large funding for youth programme

SOUNDNATION is part of a new youth development programme, which has received funding of £222,000 from the Department For Education And Employment over the next three years to promote social education. Crusaders' General Director Alan Kerbey said, "SoundNation aims to work with local churches and youth workers so that work with young people in the area can be developed. Teenage lifestyle issues such as sex, drugs, choices and pressure will be faced through a multi-media roadshow programme. These will be preceded by a week of high profile Christian emphasis in local secondary schools and followed by a carefully planned youth led programme.

"SoundNation will emphasise the importance of peer leadership amongst young people and provide training and assistance for them to reach and disciple their friends." SoundNation is a Crusaders' concept which has developed into a partnership involving Agape/Discovery, Campaigners, Covies, Oasis, Viz-a-Viz (a national Christian communication organisation) and YWAM (Youth With A Mission). It aims to work with over 100 churches and 90 secondary schools across the country.

Among the numerous endorsements received were one from the new Prime Minister Tony Blair. He said, "Teenagers today face an increasing number of difficult choices as they approach adulthood. So it is more important than ever that they have somewhere to turn for help and guidance. I am pleased to have this opportunity to send my best wishes to the organisers of SoundNation98."
