Remembering the late John Wimber
A MEMORIAL service was held on November 24th to commemorate the life
and ministry of John
Wimber. The pastor, preacher, composer and singer, whose Vineyard
stream of churches has been one of the most significant spiritual
movements in the post-war church, died after a brain haemorrhage on
the 16th November following a fall in his California home. Various
worship leaders and musicians including Andy Park, Eddie Espinosa,
Terry Butler, Scott Underwood and Cindy Rothmeier participated in the
worship band at the service. All the music used in the service, with
the exception of two songs, was written by Wimber. Others in
attendance included the Crystal Cathedral's Robert Schuller and Holy
Trinity Brompton's Sandy Millar. The Wimber family, including
grandchildren, were present while John's son, record producer Chris
Wimber, was wheeled on stage in a wheel chair. He has suffered the
loss of most of his hair because of chemo treatment for cancer.
