Edinburgh-based organist Tom Laing-Reilly dies in April
CHURCH organist Tom Laing-Reilly was found dead on 21st April. His funeral took place on 6th May. Said Douglas Bruce about the musician, who was featured on the 'Adeste Fideles' album on Delphian in 2006, "It is a great loss for the Edinburgh organ scene, as he was a consummate player, and in personal dealings (having four times been a guest soloist in the lunch-hour recital series that he organized during the Edinburgh International Festival) I found him a very congenial colleague."

Very sad belatedly to learn of Mr Laing-Reilly's death. He was one of our music teachers at James Gillespie's High School in the early 1980s and my piano tutor in Sixth Year, 1983-84 and, though later gained a post at Edinburgh University, continued to serve as an instrument tutor at the school and, I believe, until his death. He was a shy, gentle man of great patience and one of Scotland's greatest organists.
