New album sees Stryper cover songs by mainstream hitmakers
FOLLOWING the success of their 25th Anniversary World Tour earlier this year, legendary metal band Stryper headed into the studio to work on their upcoming album 'The Covering'. The project, tentatively scheduled for US release on 13th October by Big3 Records/Sony, will be a collection of cover songs from bands that have inspired Stryper including past hits from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Kansas and others. The album is being produced by Stryper's singer Michael Sweet and version of Black Sabbath's hit "Heaven And Hell" will be the first single.
'The Covering' is the first studio album in nearly two decades on which all four original members, plus longtime keyboardist Charles Foley, have recorded together. Said Michael Sweet, "Tim, Robert, Oz and I haven't recorded a full-length project together since 1990s 'Against The Law' so this is truly history in the making. We also had what was probably the best time we've ever had recording a record together and I believe that this comes through in the energy and the spirit of each track. We're all extremely excited about this record and more importantly, we're all extremely confident about the future of Stryper and the four of us making music together for years to come."

You know, I heard a lot of complaining from "the church" concerning Styper's album "Against The Law." Even I had my misgivings when I first saw the cover. However, since you "don't judge a book by it's cover" I decided to give it a good listen. After that listening experience, I found that Stryper weren't the traitors that I had heard other christian rock fans call them. These guys STILL rocked and the STILL brought the message of Jesus I had heard present on their other offerings. So, in conclusion, in my humble opinion, if Stryper wants to do a cover of mainstream rock classics, HAVE AT IT BOYS! Go with God!
