Reggae gospel singer Tendai dies from chest infection

BRITISH-based reggae gospel artist Tendai Gamure died on 1st August 2006 after a chest infection caused him to be hospitalised. Tendai was 38 years old and leaves behind a wife and three children. Tendai was born in Zimbabwe where as Culture T he gained popularity on the reggae scene, recording albums and touring. In 1989 he relocated to London where he became a Rastafarian but in early 1995 under Zoe Ministries Tendai became a committed Christian. In 1998 the singer released the reggae gospel album 'Exceedingly Abundantly' through Awake Records. As a tribute to Tendai Awake will be re-releasing his album and accounting royalties to his family. CR

listening to satani and zimba remabwe now, gets better like one. im hurt and happy at the same time he left great messages to the world of the cross. Shall forever respect him. #M6`33

The best reggae vocalist to grace Zimbabwe so far...rest in His presence i know there is everlasting peace; u need no candle coz thez abundant light there....no night in Zion!

How can we get the last unreleased album, please advise?

Tendai was a very cheerful loving person. We grew up together. may god look after his family.

Tendai was one gospel singer i always looked forward to seeing when he came to my church, Mount zion retoration ministries in Tottenham, North London, when he performed it was fire, also a concert was held in his honour in my church, he would be missed.

Just stumbled upon this forum as I was searching for more news on Tendai Gamure aka Culture-T as I was listening to the track Satani on Youtube. I remember the last time I spoke to him back in Harare in 2004 to launch his last gospel album. I was editor of the Mirror newspapers and he had come to promote his album through the press. I was starstruck from meeting the man me and lots of youngsters used to idolise growing up in Zim listening to Transit crew (I even recited to him a few lines from the track Reggae Malitis). He laughed it off modestly, explaining his spiritual journey, how he had found God and was upbeat about his Gospel career. We published a good review of his album and also covered his album launch show at the Harare Gardens. Two years after I'd also come to settle in England I read in the papers of his untimely death. I'm glad he had done his part to spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ through music. Having become prominent as a secular musician and generated a mass following among the ghetto youth, Tendai's turn to God also inspired many of his followers to take up the cross and follow Christ. I'm sure he has received his just reward, and though its many years now since he's passed I know that his family will always have his presence in their hearts and minds at all times. At least they can take heart in the fact that he died after having run a good race for God. R.I.P mkoma Tendai!
