Huge mission involving thousands of young people set for July and August 2004.

ONE OF THE largest missions ever mounted in the UK is due to take place in London in July and August. The Soulinthecity mission is being organised by Soul Survivor. Week A of Soulinthecity takes place from 26th-30th July and Week B 2nd-6th August. Although still to finalise locations for the tent cities, Soul Survivor report that already £600,000 has been given or pledged for the mission. It has received several glowing endorsements. The Prime Minister, Tony Blair said, "Soulinthecity is an immensely worthwhile venture. I am delighted to give it my support." Sir John Stevens, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said, "Soulinthecity represents a remarkable opportunity for the many communities of London to make a real and lasting difference to this city of ours. The met will certainly be playing its part and I would encourage all Londoners to think about how to get involved."

Said Soul Survivor's Mike Pilavachi, "We've been encouraged by the groundswell of support among many London churches in recent months. Churches are coming together in ways some pastors are saying they've never seen before: to pray for the mission and to plan its projects. Really exciting for us is the number of 'black majority churches' coming on board. Over half of the Christians living in London are from ethnic minorities, the largest part of these from Afro-Caribbean backgrounds in congregations made up of one ethnic group. Without the black majority churches, this isn't a truly London mission.
