Jonathan Day undertakes tour of Eastern Europe.
IN JUNE Celtic folk rocker Jonathan Day undertook a concert tour of Eastern Europe on behalf of Cross Rhythm's Song For The East appeal. Singer/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan and percussionist Shane Pincher visited Germany, Poland and White Russia.
The tour was sponsored by CVJM, the German equivalent of the YMCA, who have been working with the Russian Sputnik youth association for several years. As well as performing with and for local churches and youth organisations, Jonathan and Shane distributed some of the albums bought with money readers donated to the Cross Rhythms/Word (UK)'s Song To The East appeal, including ones by gospel stars such as Amy Grant, BeBe And CeCe Winans, Cliff Richard, Maranatha! Singers and many more.
Cross Rhythms' editor Tony Cummings said, "we had already sent one consignment through Oak Hall Holiday's. We are delighted with this opportunity of working with Jonathan and CVJM."
Jonathan commented, "the situation in Russia is very serious. There is virtually no youth activity at the moment, resulting in groups of dissatisfied young people roaming the streets. A CVJM member recently saw several violent confrontations between young people and the army. We are hoping to help the situation a little by providing music both live and recorded."
