Early martyrs of England inspiration for Californian rock band Smithfield.

CALIFORNIAN rock band Smithfield, who are set to play the Creation Festival in the UK in July, spoke about their first full album, 'The Song That Died Away' (Calvary Chapel Music), and the inspiration behind their name. Charlo Brodersen, 20, the lead singer with Smithfield, said in an interview, "The name Smithfield comes from Foxes Book Of Martyrs where it talks about how many of the reformers were taken to Smithfield in London and burned at stake for their faith in Christ. So we want to be imitators of that great passion that they had for the Lord and we also want to have that same passion in our lives."

Charlo, who is the grandson of Chuck Smith, the father of the Jesus Revolution that took place in Southern California in the late '60s and early '70s, said that he began seriously playing the guitar after his father gave him an electric guitar as a Christmas present. CR
