Sister Janet Mead receives award for services to Australian gospel music.
ONE OF the forgotten figures in the evolution of Christian music, Sister Janet Mead, was honoured at a recent awards ceremony in Australia. The singer received the Yamaha Golden Gospel Award on 27th November for lifetime achievement in Australian gospel music. In 1974 the Adelaide-born nun had a version of "The Lord's Prayer" (with music from one of her parishioners Arnold Strals) released as a single which went on to sell a staggering three million copies.

Have been singing this version (much loved) since i was a teenager in Kolkata, India. Now married and living in Adelaide my children sing it and love it as much as i do, are astounded that it was recorded by a nun and was top of the charts.
