Late gospel singer Raymond Myles has album distributed in mainstream
AN OBSCURE gospel album from the mid-'90s has been given mainstream
shop distribution by Sony. Taste Of Heaven' by New Orleans gospel
singer Raymond Myles
was originally released by Honey Darling Records with a pressing of a
hundred promotional copies. Now the album has been reissued by Sony
Legacy. Myles was a major figure on the New Orleans gospel scene,
performing at President Clinton's inauguration, singing for Pope John
Paul II and being a popular figure at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
In October 1998, three years after recording the album, the
40-year-old singer was gunned down by a carjacker. The album has
already received a rave review in Mojo magazine.
