Country music producer, guitarist and songwriter Randy Scruggs dies aged 64

Randy Scruggs 1953 - 2018

RECORD producer, guitarist, songwriter and artist Randy Scruggs died in April aged 64. Son of banjo great Earl Scruggs, of Flatt & Scruggs fame, Randy won four Grammy Awards and was named Country Music Association's Musician Of The Year in 1999, 2003 and 2006. His guest-studded solo album 'Crown Of Jewels' (1998) was critically acclaimed. As a producer, Randy worked on numerous albums including those by Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and the bluegrass gospel classic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken II" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Speaking about Randy's death, country rock star Charlie Daniels said, "Music city has lost one of its finest pickers" while collaborator Roseanne Cash called Scruggs, "A brilliant musician and a sweet soul. . ." CR
