Gospel diva Mavis Staples featured in Mojo magazine.

GOSPEL and R&B matriarch Mavis Staples is given a five-page feature in the May issue of Mojo magazine. In it the singer speaks about her time with Stax Records, the Muscle Shoals recording studio and her albums with Prince. She also talks about signing with Alligator Records. Says Mavis, "They were the only label that came back. The [major] record companies might be through with me but God is not through with me. As long as I live I am happiest when I'm singing. This is my purpose on this Earth, to sing the songs that I sing, because my songs are healing. Music is healing." CR
