Northern soul star Mary Love Comer dies in Los Angeles
Soul singer, gospel artist and pastor Mary Love Comer died aged 69 in Los Angeles on 21st June 2013. Under the name Mary Love, Mary enjoyed minor R&B hits with "Move A Little Closer" (Modern Records, 1966) and "The Hurt Is Just Beginning" (Roulette, 1968). But it was when Britain's Northern soul scene gave exposure to several of her recordings that she found her most vociferous fanbase. In the early 1980s she married Brad Comer and as Mary Love Comer released a succession of R&B gospel singles and albums, one of which, 1987's "Come Out Of The Sandbox", gained popularity in the UK club scene. She made appearances in the UK in 2000 and 2007.
