Hearts On Fire event cancelled due to financial difficulties
FINANCIAL problems have forced the organisers to cancel this year's Hearts On Fire event in Glastonbury, ironically just as up to 100,000 people converged on the town for the Glastonbury Festival. A statement said advance ticket sales had been "unacceptably low" and added that while almost all local churches had given their blessing to the event, only "a very small number" had actually supported it. A crowd of 5,000 was needed to make it viable. The bill for this year's event, which was to be held on 16th and 17th July, had earlier been announced as including Dave Bilbrough, Steve Flashman and Paul Field.
Despite their set back and losses estimated at £15,000, Christian Arts Promotions were pressing on with plans for Hearts On Fire 2000, set for the third or fourth weekend in July. The vision remains for a millennial celebration at the cradle of UK Christianity, featuring many major Christian artists - with a target crowd of 10,000. Further financial backing is being sought.
