Dan Haseltine of Jars Of Clay makes outspoken comments in recent interview
THE LEAD singer of CCM hitmakers Jars Of Clay, Dan Haseltine, has made some stinging comments about Christians and politics. In an interview with an American journalist prior to concerts in the Good Monsters Tour of the USA, Haseltine told Sioux Falls, South Dakota, newspaper columnist Robert Morast, "There's such a facade that we have all our crap together, that we don't wrestle with what other people have to wrestle with," Haseltine says about Christians. "And that's just not true. People want to buy what they want to be told. They want people to lie to them."
Haseltine also spoke about how in America today if you are an
outspoken Christian you're assumed to be a conservative Republican.
Because of this, Haseltine says Jars Of Clay can't release the war protest
songs it has written - its fans probably aren't ready for them. It's
also why Haseltine rarely shares his political opinions.
"If you
rock the boat too much, your records won't appear in certain Christian
record stores anymore," Haseltine says. Yet much of a 25-minute phone
interview featured Haseltine speaking his mind freely and calmly. On
the war, he says, "Watching our current government, we joke about it
saying that they're going to usher in the apocalypse."
