The London Arena saw the Messiah's Millenium Celebration take place on the Isle Of Dogs
ONE OF the biggest ever gospel events held in Britain, Messiah's Millennium Celebration, took place at the London Arena on the Isle Of Dogs before a crowd of 13,000. Organised by Britain's fastest growing church, the Kingsway International Christian Centre, the 10-hour marathon featured American gospel supers tars Sounds Of Blackness; the KICC Mass Choir and the TNT Youth Choir all celebrated before a rapturous audience. One of the disappointments at the event was the non-appearance of gospel legend Tramaine Hawkins despite being advertised. Said Richard Hart about the event; "Sounds Of Blackness were unquestionably the highlight of the evening. Their dress, their rhythm, their music was stunning. And this apparently was just half of the group. The other 17 members had remained in the United States to per form be fore President Clinton at the White House. For two hours this group captivated the audience. As dawn broke, the London Arena was still throbbing to the sounds of celebration ."
