Drongomala fuse gospel music with South Indian folk
A GROUP based in Manchester who say their musical influences range from Mahalia Jackson to South Indian folk music, Drongomala, have recorded an album in India with several well known Indian musicians. Amongst those featured on the recording '100 Fields' are Balu Kamath, the highly rated mridangham player, A R Biju on veena, and British jazz stalwart Jon Thorne. The album contains such songs as "Amazing Grace", "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and "This May Be The Last Time". Said Drongomala, "The musicians themselves were a mix of Christian, Hindu, Muslim and agnostic but all have the same goal of trying to make a record about peace. We just happened to have some old gospel songs to get there."
