The Abyssinian Baptist Gospel Choir heralded by Mojo
THE NOVEMBER issue of the UK's Mojo magazine comes with a compilation CD 'Buried Treasures: 15 Key Tracks From The Greatest Albums You'd Never Heard'. It contains an obscure 1960 gospel track from an album by The Abyssinian Baptist Gospel Choir, an aggregation led by the famed Professor Alex Bradford.
About "I Want To Ride That Glory Train" Mojo wrote, "Before John Hammond discovered Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, he recorded this extraordinary New Jersey choir at their church in Newark. 'Tony Bennett said this is the greatest rock'n'roll record ever recorded' claimed suitably awestruck fan Tom Waits in 2004."
