Rediscovered veteran British songsmith Bill Fay gets critical accolades
THE BRITISH singer, songwriter and pianist Bill Fay, who recorded two unsuccessful albums in the '60s and '70s, was subsequently dropped by his record company and then spent decades in obscurity until being rediscovered in 2012, is receiving critical praise for his new album. Reviewing Fay's 'Who Is The Sender?' on Dead Oceans Records Record Collector magazine wrote, "Taken at a meditative, reflective pace, it's a dense, magisterial record, but there's always space for Fay's humble, declamatory 'alternative gospel' ruminations. 'The Freedom To Read' eulogises William Tyndale, martyred for translating the Bible into English, while 'War Machine' contrasts a hawk's hunting instinct with the human compulsion for conflict."
