Southern gospel tenor Danny Gaither dies on 6th April
SOUTHERN GOSPEL's Danny Gaither, died on April 6th after a five year battle with lymphoma. Gaither was the original tenor in the Bill Gaither Trio. At 18, he formed the group with his brother, Bill Gaither, and their younger sister, Mary Ann. Bill's wife, Gloria Gaither, later joined Danny and Bill, and the Bill Gaither Trio signed its first recording contract in 1964. Danny travelled with the Bill Gaither Trio for more than 10 years and recorded 14 albums with the group. His voice is on the original recordings of such Gaither classics as "Something Beautiful", "He Touched Me", "Let's Just Praise The Lord", "Sweet Sweet Spirit", the children's classic "I Am A Promise" and many more. The Gaither Trio was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame in 1999.
"Danny Gaither's voice and his kind gentle spirit will be greatly missed," Vestal Goodman, gospel music legend and long time friend of the Gaither family, told The CCM Update. "What a great loss to the family of God, but our loss is truly Heaven's gain." Gaither Music Company President Barry Jennings added, "Danny Gaither's legacy will live on for many years... not only his unforgettable voice, but his gentle spirit. He has been an inspiration to so many and he will be sorely missed."
