Kerrange! magazine put Christian metal under the microscope.
A FIVE PAGE feature on Christian metal has been published in the
latest issue of mainstream's Kerrang! magazine. Under the heading Q.
What Do These Three Rock Stars Have In Common? A. They're All
Christian - And Proud Of It, the article namechecks numerous bands and
includes an interview with As I Lay Dying. The article by Dom Lawson
reported, "There was a time when invoking the Lord at Donington would
have resulted in a hail of abuse and piss bombs. But in today's metal
scene, Christianity is everywhere. Brian 'Head' Welch recently made
the headlines when he quit Korn for a quiet life of religious
observance. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth claims the inspiration for his
latest album came from the Bible. Meanwhile, newer bands like Norma
Jean and As I Lay Dying are winning over metalcore scenesters as well
as devout church-goers. Even Slayer's Tom Araya recently spoke of his
belief in an 'all-loving God.' Something strange and unexpected is
happening. From the soaring, redemptive anthems of Killswitch Engage
to the righteous savagery of Still Remains, it's almost as if
Christianity has become.cool."
I love the entire album "The End of Heartache" by KSE, and, yes the lyrics are very pro-Christian. Supposedly, Howard Jones, is an avid Cornerstone (Christian Music Festival) attendee and has been for years. Some of the most creative bands I've found recently have been Christian or had Christian members. Let's face it, everyone preaches something whether it be negative or positive. This Christian metal movement is a breath of fresh air.
