50,000 attend the Champion Of The World event
"AWESOME", "the most astonishing meeting I've ever attended" and "surely a forerunner for the forthcoming revival that is going to hit Britain" were just three of the comments from the 50,000 Christians who attended the Champion Of The World event at Wembley Stadium on 28th June. The event, the fulfilment of a vision by worship leader Noel Richards, featured Bible teacher Gerald Coates, Littlehampton phenomenon Delirious?, the Wades, Graham Kendrick, Matt Redman and numerous guests. Among the many highlights were Gerald Coates' interview with Donald Smith, now in his 70s but who was converted at the age of 13 during the Isle Of Lewis Revival, a testimony of a recently bereaved wife shot a week before at Pensecola, USA and thousands of believers young and old praying for revival in Britain and repenting of the sins of the nation.
"To see the spirit of worship among people who had in most cases been there for seven hours was quite incredible," said Gerald Coates. At various points during Noel Richards closing worship session, the crowd began football style chants of "Jesus". "At times the meeting had a life of its own," admitted Mr Coates.
One person attending the event said, "A number of the Wembley Stewards were obviously deeply touched by what was going on".
