Church Of England newspaper chronicle Britney Spears' change of image.
THE RESPECTED Church Of England newspaper in its 8th April issue ran a major feature on Britney Spears and her "new, sleazy image." The piece, by Jonathan Wynne-Jones, recounted how once the singer "espoused traditional morals and ideals of remaining a virgin until she got married." It continued, "In her book, Britney Spears' Heart To Heart, she revealed a deep Christian faith, telling how she kept a prayer journal and prayed every night. 'I find a lot of comfort and strength in knowing I can talk to God and he's listening. That's the way we were raised and my family still goes to church on Sundays. I don't think I could ever look at how lucky I am and not think that God had a hand on it. I'm a firm believer that everything is in God's hands and you don't always know what's around the corner.'"
The article went on to chronicle the singer's seeming change of heart. "Britney Spears found that the weight of the ideal, and the weight of people's expectations, were too much for her to bear. Cynics might suggest that her recent irresponsible and sexually provocative actions are part of a desperate bid to change her appeal to an older market. The more human explanation is that it is the behaviour of someone who is hurting, who is making a desperate call for help as she is losing control."
