Amy Grant to release 'Behind The Eyes'

THE NEW album by pop and CCM star Amy Grant 'Behind The Eyes' marks a creative crossroads for the US star. She says, "A few close friends, whose opinions I trust, asked me why my songs failed to represent the person that they know of me. It was time to go below the surface, to make a record that might inadvertently shake up people's perceptions of me. What I found was that it shook me up most of all."

Amy admits that she wrote many of the songs on 'Behind The Eyes' with the thought of playing them alone on an acoustic guitar. "I rediscovered my love for playing the guitar...playing all the time...for my kids, in the living room...just like when I first began to perform.

This is the first album on which I actually played guitar." The album is not overt in its Christian message. Says the 36-year-old singer, "These songs are not about life being perfect. They are not about convincing anybody of anything but I'm willing to stand behind every one of them and say, 'Either you like them or not but they are all meaningful to me.'" Produced by Keith Thomas, 'Behind The Eyes' is set for a massive push though its suitability for Christian radio is currently open to some debate. Reviewing the first single off the album "Take A Little Time", the magazine aimed at US Christian radio programmers CCM Update said, "As far as the lyrical content is concerned, there is no evangelical bent, no mention of God. If the music you play has to have either of those two elements, you might not want to play it. However, it would be fairly easy to justify this track to anyone who wonders what it has to do with God. Look at your concordance under 'patience'." CR
