Amy Grant to release new pop album in UK on 5th September

AMERICA'S recording star Amy Grant will release her long awaited pop album, 'Simple Things', in the UK on 5th September. Said Amy, "This album is three years in the making. As a result 'Simple Things' is a collection of songs that reflect a lot of life that has happened along the way." The album's genesis was the summer of 2000 when Grant, her producer Keith Thomas and some co-writing friends spent a week in Destin, Florida where much of the album's more idyllic songs were written, including the title track, "Happy", "Looking For You" and "Touch". Following the trip to Destin, Grant became pregnant with Corrina, her first child with new husband Vince Gill, and the writing and recording of the new project was sidelined while Amy and Vince welcomed the arrival of their daughter and dealt with some of the issues of a blended family.

Some of the more personal songs on the album deal with the issues of shame, forgiveness and healing that Amy dealt with during the years immediately after her divorce. "'Innocence Lost' is one of the only two songs on the album that I didn't have a part in writing, but the lyric captures what I was feeling about how part of living involves losing your innocence," said Grant. "And 'Out In The Open', which is the first song I wrote for the record, is about finding freedom from shame and forgiving yourself." "I Don't Know Why", a song which Grant began writing with Kirkpatrick in early September 2001, took on new meaning a few weeks later when the United States was hit by terrorists. "Suddenly the idea of appreciating the moment took on a deeper meaning as I watched the news coverage of all the people who lost loved ones in an instant."
