JOY WILLIAMS fielded some questions from Mike Rimmer.
Mike: You come from a Christian family. How old were you when you became a Christian?
Joy: "I became a Christian at age four and my sister was the one who led me to the Lord. The thing that I find funny was that I was in the bath tub and Sarah came in and said, 'Do you know where you're going? Mom, Dad and I are going to Heaven. Do you know where you're going?" I said, 'No.' So it seems that I met the Lord and Mr Bubbles was right on the side of the counter."
Mike: When did you first get into music?
Joy: "Music, I'm told, runs in my genes. My mother's side primarily was very gifted musically; my grandpa on that side actually taught music and played the violin extremely well. And my mother is the youngest of six children and they all learned harmony at a very early age. So I have a very musical family background, and I would have loved to have been a little fly on the wall back when they were all together singing at church on one pew - I think it would have been a choir."
Mike: What is it that's unique about you - what you want to communicate with people?
Joy: "Well, one thing that I want to start off by saying is that I don't think that I'm super special in any way, shape or form. The other thing that I would like to really affirm to you is the fact that I'm not here for self promotion. To go out and sing about the Lord is solely my focus and whether I'm on stage or off stage I always pray that I will be a blessing to people.
Mike: So you want to live out your faith all over the place?
Joy: "I hope so. I mean, God gave Jesus to us and Jesus was the ultimate servant, you know, and Jesus washed the disciples' feet - what makes me think I couldn't pick up someone else's plate or be kind to the person who brought me the plate of food in the first place? It would be so haughty of me to think that I was something more special than anybody else coz God never made mistakes and everyone is so priceless to him."
