Arguably the finest harmony group in America's world of CCM, FIRST CALL have enjoyed industry awards, album sales and high profile media exposure. But the trio also have a growing consciousness that they're on a sacred journey. Jan Willem Vink spoke to the group's Bonnie Keene.

"Buechner is definitely a First Call influence. We all read his books. 'Sacred Journey' was the title of one of his novels that was an inspiration for our song and that's the title of the album."

Recently you contributed to The New Young Messiah. What kind of an experience was that for you?

"It was wonderful. We did the first record a few years ago and then we had a new manager, Norman Miller, who owns The New Young Messiah project. He asked us to do this one also and we were thrilled. Mervyn Warren from Take 6 did the arrangements and it was acapella, so we had a blast. And then we got to sing on quite a few of the other artists' songs that were on there too. I think the record is absolutely incredible. I think it is so good. I would highly recommend it to anyone."

Do you feel like there's been a new start for the group?

"We've got new energy, new heart for what we do. I think God will make us more bold than before. And probably even more vulnerable as artists and people. With our audience and as writers and call us even more a part of that. The group started off as session singers and we sang on so many different things. Then we were asked to do a record because of the tour we were going on with Sandi Patti. We did the first records just kind of fun, it wasn't as with a serious heart for doing God's work as he has grown us into. I think now he set a real spirit of boldness on our hearts, of wanting to really go out and embrace this on all sides. I couldn't put it in any other word than bold."

Do you have any other future plans?

"We are going to be out in the Spring with Michael English with a band, which will be fun. We are going to work on a new project next year and do our own tour next fall, so it will be a busy year. We are really excited about the Michael English thing."
