Suzie Brock reflects on the recent tragic shooting and fires in California.
I've been thinking about the tragic shooting a few weeks ago in a city
very near to ours in California, followed by the tragic fires that
took homes and lives. The shooter was a person with a troubled mind
and a troubled heart, the fires may well have been started, as they
very often are, by troubled people, (not at all unusual in California
for pyromaniacs to come out when the hot winds start).
People who don't know Jesus wonder why those of us who spend our
lives telling others about Him, do what we do, and the reason is that
He came to heal troubled hearts and troubled minds!
Someone who truly gets hold of God through the acceptance of His Son
Jesus, and begins to walk in His ways, to read and follow His word, to
pray and find peace in His presence, they are people who find healing
and deliverance.
God is a God of love, compassion, mercy,
and kindness, a God who led by example in loving us and preferring us
in hopes that we would also walk in the same way with one another. He
came to give peace, perfect peace, not fear or torment.
Hurt people tend to hurt people. These people need healing to stop that cycle, and that is exactly what God came to do.
Every day I try my very best to make Him known, to present Him to those without Him, that they would find healing and peace in their spirits and souls. That they would come to understand what it is to be loved and adopted into a family that will never fall apart, and in that family discover that they have a calling and destiny worth living.
People who find and follow after Jesus are people who truly reflect what they behold, not people who start fires and kill others.
The world needs Jesus, oh how the world needs Jesus and I am not ashamed to proclaim it.
'For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes-the Jew first and also the Gentile.' (Romans 1:16)
'You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!' (Isaiah 26:3)
'"I leave the gift of peace with you-my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don't yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts-instead, be courageous!"' (John 14:27)
