Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession...Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4: 14, 16)

The Bible refers to two 'seats' that the almighty God sits upon, the judgment seat (Romans 14:10) and the mercy seat (Hebrews 9:5). As a perfect God, the almighty balances these two virtues - justice and mercy, like no-one else.

Jesus is our great and ultimate high priest who can be relied upon for grace, help, mercy and relief at every time of need. Apostle Paul goes to a great length in the book of Hebrews to show the supremacy of the Lord Jesus over all other past and future prophets, parents, sacrifices and high priests. Jesus is superior also to angels, (Hebrews 1:4 and 2:18). This partly explains why anyone who has Jesus has got ultimate salvation and eternal life.

Mercy speaks of compassion, pardon, forgiveness, debt cancellation, help and supply of needs to others. In times such as we are currently in, characterized by hardships and problems, we all need the mercy of God. Through His mercy, our sins are forgiven us and our sicknesses are healed. Because of His mercies, we are not consumed by the fiery darts of the wicked.

God knows at some points in our lives there would be needs; needs in our family, needs in our finances, needs in our nation etc, and also mercy to pull through some difficult challenges. God has therefore made provision for us at the throne of grace where He is seated on the mercy seat. All that is required of us is to come boldly with our requests to this throne of grace where God is ready to attend to every need in our lives and nation.

May we obtain mercy and find grace to help in these times of need...Amen.
