Having been inspired by President Clinton, Dan & Claire Maudhub look at the true source of change and inspiration, a relationship with Father God
Recently I have had the huge privilege of being involved in a business event for entrepreneurs, with President Clinton as the main keynote speaker. Listening to what he had to say was inspirational and challenging. He spoke to business people about the opportunity they have, together with their education and resources, to make a change in this world. How true is that of the church?
President Clinton spoke about three areas that will define change in modern society:
1. How we relate to eachother
2. How we relate to technology
3. How we relate to this planet
At the heart of change are relationships. As Christians, our relationship with God is the key component for any change. We live in a society desperate for change; for improvement to our bodies, finances and relationships; but real change only comes out of our relationship with Father God. Both the Hebrew and Greek words for Father, in the original texts, mean 'source and sustainer'. Father God is our source, which means change in society starts with plugging into the source and being grafted into Jesus (John 15).
Secondly, change comes when we see ourselves as Father God sees us. We are created in His image and are His workmanship. That's a truth we have to know, otherwise how do we know our identity? We can look in as many places as we like for the answer, but we are created in the image of Christ and He fashioned and formed us. Believe it!
Another key to change is in our believing that God wants to work in the world around us. We are conditioned by this world to be self-centered, even our faith can be self-centred and introspective; but Father God's heart is for us to reflect and represent Him to a broken world that so desperately needs Jesus. We are His agents for change. If another programme, event or even institution was going to bring change, then the world would already be changed! God wants us to be agents of change, to take the servant love of Jesus into our schools, work places, friendship groups and reflect an authentic faith; a faith based on us being changed by God so the world can see Him living in us and through us.
As President Clinton implored the business world to bring change in society, I want to encourage you today, that you can make a change in this broken world. But the change needs to happen in you first, so it can happen through you. Don't live with the lies of the enemy, the hurts of the past or the wrong mindsets that hold you back. Plug into the Source and Sustainer. One moment in His presence and in His word can change your life forever.
Be blessed and be the change.
