Paul Calvert spoke with David Koren, the Executive Director from ERAN.

David: Actually it's just a little bit down for the period of the war. Usually at times like this, people come together and for the most part it goes down a little bit, for a very short time. There are much more people who call for stress during times of conflict and people who are in fear, or people who call for information as well.

Paul: As an organisation, do you have to step in if you feel someone is in imminent danger?

David: Yes, if someone is in imminent danger, although our call is anonymous, in such a situation we will make sure he gets medical help or whatever and that his life will be safe. We will send somebody to him, not our volunteer, and make sure he is being taken to the hospital, or whatever help he might need.

Paul: Do you get any good stories of people who have been saved afterwards?

David: Yes there are. Sometimes we don't know, because people call and we know that we saved them, but then we don't hear anything. The volunteers sometime think, "I hope he is good, but I really don't know", but sometimes afterwards we get a letter, or a call. Those letters and calls are very rewarding.

I went to a business store once and I was negotiating for someone for ERAN and the person I was negotiating with, when he realised where I was from, he was quiet and then he said, "I will do everything for you. You saved my life a couple of years ago" and he gave me his story. He is in a totally different place now. He has a family and just had a very rough time and we saved him.

We had a volunteer whose son committed suicide and she realised that if her son would have called our service then he would have been with us today, so she said this is my contribution to the other people in memory of him, but often we don't hear and we are wondering where they are.
