Kunle Olabode shares reflections on God as our Shepherd
'The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters.' (Psalm 23: 1-2)
One of the many titles of the Almighty God is Jehovah Rohi - The Lord my Shepherd. Indeed the Lord is the Shepherd over His people, and as His sheep, we will experience abundant provisions to enable us to enjoy the abundant life promised in John 10:10.
Included in the package of abundant supply and care for His sheep, the Lord will lead us to rest in choice green pastures. May all who have hitherto experienced vexation of spirit, tension, disquiet and stress enter into the season of rest and calmness now and forever in Jesus name.
For anyone who is under the care of the Almighty God, the Good Shepherd, there is an assurance of God's richest blessings, which include feeding in green pastures where there are limitless provisions. Even in periods of scarcity (drought and crisis), God still divinely provides for His children abundantly. Such divine care is what can make the recipient to be compared, as in Psalm 1:3, to a tree planted by the riverside where there is no lack of provisions and unfruitfulness is not an option. To be under the leadership of the Good Shepherd is to wholly embrace the goodness of the Shepherd, and to escape the evils of life.
King David, the Psalmist, who had been a shepherd at some point in his life; and also known what it means to be under the Good Shepherd, makes this declaration in Psalm 34:10:
'The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing'.
This is further assurance that our Heavenly Father is interested in all-round wellbeing and prosperity of His children.
This season, as we entrust our lives into the hand of the Good Shepherd, the Lord will guide us to still, deep waters of rest and refreshing. There will be restoration for all who may have experienced loss or defeat of any sort! The Lord will guide us along the right paths and we shall have no cause for stumbling, falling or going astray.
Let somebody shout ... Hallelujah!
