The rising of generation xtreme - part 8 in the serialising of Carl Anderson's Changing Of The Guard

Continued from page 2

Here were young men, my age and younger, who are now dead and gone. The reality of the eternal was drilled into me. The Bible declares that our lives are but a vapor, and then we are gone. Though we are young, we have a destiny.

Rees Howells reported the awesome sense of Divine intervention he felt on the night of D-Day during his intercession period. He read General Eisenhower's Order of the Day to the assault troops, "The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with...Let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking." And beseech they did. He prayed, "...lay a burden on us; don't allow us to be slack. If Hitler had won, Christianity, civilization and freedom would have gone. O Lord, protect and keep our men! Don't allow us to pray any differently from what we would if we were on the front line. We do believe the end of this will be victory."

The Daily Telegraph, a month later, reported that it was the only night the U-boats did not patrol the channel. The allies approached the beaches of Normandy with 4,000 ships and 11,000 planes, and never met a single plane or ship of the enemy! God had spoken to Mr. Howells, "I am going over (bold emphasis mine) and there won't be a setback."
