A double CD, one of studio recordings, the other of "stripped down" interpretations.

A double CD featuring two distinct recordings. Featuring the 20 outstanding new worship songs to emerge through the Church this year, with a focus on congregational-singability and theological content. CD 1 features twelve full band arrangements and CD 2 ten stripped-back acoustic arrangements (2 songs feature on both disks) they are both a soundtrack to personal worship and a genuine resource.

Highlights include GMA Song Of The Year My Saviour My God, new hymns from Stuart Townend/Aaron Keyes (Psalm 62) and Keith & Kristyn Getty's (Beneath The Cross), You Never Let Go by Matt & Beth Redman, and the moving title track written by Andy Bromley.

Reviewed by Paul Kerslake

The array of songs across this double disc set is well chosen, including Chris Tomlin's "Awesome Is The Lord Most High" and "Amazing Grace", Vicky Beeching's "The Wonder Of The Cross" and "Jesus, You Are Worthy" by Brenton Brown. There are also tracks from Matt Redman, Paul Oakley and Trent Vineyard. Disc one has arrangements of the songs with a capable band including Dan Wheeler on guitar, Paul Evans on drums and Cathy Burton sharing the vocal duties amongst others, while the second disc is similar to the 'Inspired' acoustic worship project that I reviewed previously, where popular worship songs are reinterpreted into a small group setting, usually just piano and/or acoustic guitar and vocal. The recording and arrangements are very good, but they do lose something from being in this studio setting. This may be because I'm used to the original versions, or I have become accustomed to singing them in my personal worship, but with the calibre of the musicians and producers I personally was expecting a bit more from the reworking and recordings. If you're someone that rarely buys worship albums, or you want to find resource for equipping your small (or larger) group worship then this album may well be useful to you. However, if you already own most of these songs in one form or another it may well be better for you to look elsewhere for your inspiration.
