David Gibbs is pianist for the Community Chapel Worship Center in Hempstead, Texas. This, David's solo album, features his vocals with his piano on half of the songs and multi-tracked guitar on the others. He is also accompanied by various members of the Amelang family. It is clear from the lyrics and sleeve notes that God has brought him through some hard times and David is keen to share his journey with others. When it comes down to it though I have to say that I did not enjoy this offering. It is something of a throw back to some of the more low budget Jesus music of the '70s and '80s. Lyrically, in spite of a quote to the contrary on the album sleeve, there is little here that seems to be very original. The low point for me is "Mary Had A Little Lamb", which just as a title was cringe-inducing to me - the idea of reducing the Son of God to the words of a children's nursery rhyme and listening to the song does nothing to allay those fears. "Sometimes" seems to be an attempt to just pack as many words into a song as one possibly can. The final track "Faithful And Brave" is said to be a tribute to Larry Norman. Well it does use the guitar pattern from 'UFO'. The singing - which sometimes sounds as though it is influenced by Springsteen - is uninspiring and unmelodic.

David is an incredible songwriter - his song 'Red Makes White' sounds like Bruce Springsteen on a particularly inspired day.
