A compilation of her best tracks taken from albums recorded over the last decade. The Ultimate Collection from Nicole C. Mullen features a complete retrospective of one of Christian music’s most beloved artists’ body of work, beginning with her self-titled debut in 1995 through her latest 2008 release, A Dream To Believe In, Vol. 2. The package includes extensive historical liner notes by music veteran Deborah Evans price chronicling Nicole’s rise from back-up singer for Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and Newsboys to songwriter for other CCM artists and finally to Dove Award-winning recording artist. Includes selections from all eight of Nicole’s projects and features the biggest songs of her career – ‘Redeemer’, ‘Call On Jesus’, ‘I Am’, ‘One Touch (Press)’ and many more! The 20-song collection also features two duets – ‘Faith, Hope & Love’ with Mark Schultz from the motion picture, Joshua and “Follow Jesus (Landa Yesu)” with Selah. |

Reviewed by Carl Grimsditch From humble beginnings this multitalented artist has produced a horde of fine albums. As well as being an award winning singer and songwriter Nicole has several books to her name. Unfortunately as with a lot of compilations the songs here do not gel together in the same way as they would on their respective albums. Individually the songs are exceptional but they just do not have that musical glue that makes for a great album. The album has some beautiful tracks laced with vocal acrobatics; "One Touch" tells the story of the healing of the sick woman from the Gospels and "Convinced" with its busy and melodic bass line is very moving, with a chorus saying, "'Cause neither death or life can sever/Neither height or depth could measure the love you have, and my love for you." Overall, this is slickly produced R&B with occasional African influences and hints of rock and pop. But fans of the genre are best advised searching out the albums that sourced this compilation.
