Now, just the name makes you want to check out this band, doesn't it? Having fronted cult band Love Coma with Sixpence's Matt Slocum and spent a few years with a "next big thing" tag weighing him down, Chris Taylor took time out from his solo endeavours to record this band album with fellow Texan and fellow songwriter Ed Morales. Envisaged originally as a vibey live band playing locally in Texas, the band have a simple rock'n'roll garage feel with jangling Rickenbackers and Taylor's voice topping the lot. The album sounds less textured than Taylor's solo recordings and yet there's something undoubtedly powerful about this stuff. There are plenty of highlights from the breezy melody of "Faith And Doubt" to "Remember Me" where they even employ a nice string arrangement to fine effect, and then there's the Beatlesque "Heavy Rotation" which is a rock'n'vibe masterpiece. In a world of clean, pretty pop rock, it's good to find a band willing to take a few creative risks and create something with a dirtier sound and plenty of lyrical honesty. Luke 15:2 says, "He gives a welcome to notorious sinners" and maybe we should too!
