Illinois-based singer/songwriter and Wingfeather Saga author Andrew Peterson's latest release is something of a departure in that most of the content was written - with the help of producer Gabe Scott - during the recording process and the result is nothing short of stunning. Undeniably introspective in nature, Peterson succeeds in grabbing the heart of the listener with beautifully poetic but candidly aching lyrics that portray certain life struggles whilst weaving in the love of Christ to offer up hope and help instead of self-pity. Opening with the striking song of hope "The Dark Before The Dawn" which literally looks towards a horizon full of light from the standpoint of a dark place, songs such as "We Will Survive" and "The Power Of A Great Affection" continue in the same vein and showcase Peterson's well-crafted lyricism that gently points towards a God who is willing to meet us where we are. Delivered with his trademark invitingly sincere vocal performance to the backdrop of the gentle acoustic pop folk sound he has cultivated over the years, odes to his wife and daughter ("My One Safe Place" and "Be Kind To Yourself" respectively) see Peterson open up his heart even further whilst a duet with Nashville CCM singer Ellie Holcomb on "The Rain Keeps Falling" adds some vocal variety. The expertly-delivered song of contrition "I Want To Say I'm Sorry" sums up Peterson's supreme songwriting skills and is arguably the highlight of a release that goes beyond the music and just simply helps.

Award-winning author and Dove nominated artist Andrew Peterson has quietly carved out a niche for himself as one of the most thoughtful, poetic, and lyrical songwriters of his generation. For over 20 years, Andrew’s songs remind us again and again of simple, solid things like love and friendship and hope and redemption and beauty and how our stories were meant to be shared, and how the darkness will not always hold sway, and how we, being human, need to hear those things over and over again, because otherwise we become disconnected from the very stories we’re living in. This is exactly what Andrew’s new album, The Burning Edge Of Dawn, is all about. Once again, his impactful songwriting reaches to the hearts of his listeners.
