One-time member of K-ci & Jo Jo moves into gospel.

Dave Hollister has built his R&B credentials on a Gospel foundation. His Gospel prowess is no surprise considering that he grew up spending most of his time in church. Both of Dave's parents were preachers and it was at his father's church that he received his vocal training. This artist is best known for rocking his soulful gospel voice with music that mixes streetwise hip-hop and smoothe R&B flavour.

On Dave's new CD, The Book of David: The Transition, artist/producer Hollister and his production team PAJAM, Shep Crawford, Warryn 'Baby Dub' Campbell, Mike City, Clubhouse, Jessie Wright, Reginald Lewis and Daniel Weatherspoon offer up a mix of cutting-edge Gospel/R&B with a smattering of old-school jams and soulful vocals. Songs on the disc take a hard-hitting look at Dave's walk of faith during a tumultuous life and rise to fame.

The Book Of David: The Transition is soulful, streetwise and smooth enough to appeal to Hollister's vast R&B fan base and win over gospel fans as well.

Dave is the cousin of K-ci & Jo Jo who had UK success in the late '90s. This album, his first for a gospel label, was recorded in 2006 as a concept project, autobiographical in nature featuring his return to faith. Dave's years in the industry shine through as in song he outlines his return to faith. Once past the opening prayer, the disc starts with soulful "Nothing But God". An introduction follows, then "Help Me" outlines Dave's struggles in a streetwise groove that would challenge many R&B artists. This is a quality recording, but it loses its musical path somewhat when content appears to overtake the music such as "The Settlement" which outlines his divorce. This becomes a challenging listen even for the most dedicated. And "Nothing But God" quite frankly goes on far too long! However, the cracking "No One" pulls the Hollister ship back on course. A mixed album from a man with a wonderful testimony.
