South African rock team return to worship on their latest set. |
|
Reviewed by Tony Cummings To our ears Tree63’s ‘The Life And Times Of Absolute Truth’ was an aural treat containing some of their best ever work but the fact that it wasn’t a worship album, and that’s how the band are being marketed Stateside, was always going to be a problem in getting airplay/sales. So predictably, a more worship-orientated project has now been rushed through double quick. It’s good too though ironically not as impactful as its unsuccessful predecessor. But the South African trio are still powerfully passionate worshippers and the Brit rock influences here – vintage U2, Delirious? and even Police – push all the right buttons. Careering cuts like “You Only”, a celebration of God’s sovereignty and a nifty Jesus-as-hero song “Now My Eyes Are Open” have urgent guitar work while John Ellis’ gustily emotive vocals add to the energy levels. Even their cover of “Blessed Be Your Name” shows some original ideas. All in all a good, if not a classic, rock worship album. More from Tree63See all...
