No danger of coming to this one with any preconceptions! The Salvation Army - brass, bonnets, tambourines and hot soup. Well there's no soup here, and no sign of any bonnets that can readily be seen (there is only one woman in the band), and tambourines might be there, under the general term of percussion. However, there is definitely brass, more brass than you could find in a paddock full of shire horses. The liner notes comment how supremacy is a word that can become devalued when applied to people or food, but is only ultimately true of God himself. A grand theme, and it's a big sound to go with it. Immediately noticeable are workings of hymns "When I Survey" and "In Christ Alone". The music is at turns soothing and rousing. The title track itself includes musical themes from a number of highly recognizable songs including "Above All Powers". "El Es El Senor" is a Latin American setting for popular worship song "He Is The Lord (Show Your Power)". Sometimes it sounds like some kind of grand film score. Dudley Bright, principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra, is the featured soloist here. If you want a brass band to inspire you to worship, then you could do little better than 'Supremacy' while the well researched sleevenotes provide plenty of insight into the inspiration for the pieces.
